Completed Projects in Armenia and Artsakh

  • Established working relationships with the Ministry of Health and the office of the Minister of Health, Republic of Armenia
  • Part-time representative in-country to support our projects in Armenia
  • COVID supplies to four major hospitals in Yerevan (masks & cannulas of various types)
  • High-volume oxygen concentrators to nursing homes in Gyumri and Vardenis
  • 40-foot container of medical supplies and equipment for two hospitals
  • Support for Armenian soldiers and families via durable equipment to several hospitals (x-rays, c-arms, anesthesia machines, orthopedic devices, braces)
  • Major supporter of the new oxygen generator at Alikhanyan National Laboratory “So that the people of Armenia will never again be short of oxygen”
  • Key organizer of rehab conference / training workshops; Telemedicine sessions between the US / Armenia
  • In-home “Shoonch” oxygen concentrators program for homebound elderly (20 units)  – in collaboration with the Association of Healthcare and Assistance to Older People (AHAOP) and Focus on Children Now (FCN)
  • Medical missions by AAMA members / Individual traveler program

Representative Ongoing and Future Work

Establishment of the AAMA Healthcare Advancement Grant Program 

  • 2022 Recipients:  

    • Tufenkian Foundation “Artsakh Combat Casualty Care” to provide training in Artsakh for triage and emergency care for combat injuries in order to minimize trauma and reduce casualties  
    • Viva Charity Foundation “Prenatal Screening” to provide prenatal genetic screening for mothers of all ages residing in the Shirak Marz  
    • Program expanded for 2023 to include a total of four grants
  • CME programs including work with  ICPD 
  • Opportunities for US-based Armenian healthcare students to undertake training in the Marzes (Lori), supported by and in collaboration with Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) medical facilities 
  • Annual scholarships for New England-based healthcare students (medicine, nursing, physician assistant, etc.)

    • Cardiovascular disease education and pilot program in improving hypertension control in the primary care setting in rural Armenia, including risk assessment, management of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and patient engagement.

    • Mentorship component of the EIH program
    • Each month several AAMA primary care physicians meet with physicians from rural Armenia via zoom, review challenging cases, and alternate  with didactic sessions based on previous discussions and need
