The 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War has strained Armenia’s healthcare system with the management of thousands of wounded soldiers and refugees in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the start of the war in September 2020, Therapists for Armenia & Armenian American Sports Medicine Coalition have initiated various efforts including coordination of rehabilitation volunteers traveling to Armenia, donation of therapeutic supplies, clinical webinars related to treatment and assessment of war injuries, teleconsultation with in-country clinicians, and a digital resource library. In order to further advance the field and promote international collaboration, we have organized Post-Conflict Rehabilitation Virtual Symposium. This symposium will serve as a platform for international experts and participants to come together for the first multidisciplinary rehabilitation conference targeting post-war injuries. We look forward to further collaboration and efforts to support capacity-building for Armenian’s system and infrastructure.
AAMA’s Community COVID Webinar is coming up on Sunday, February 28th at 4PM EST. Learn about COVID vaccines and have your questions answered by our expert panel.
The event is open to the public. See flyer for details. Advanced registration is required.
Since the end of the war, in collaboration with doctors in Armenia, AAMA has identified displaced children from Artsakh with epilepsy and injured soldiers that require pain medications.
Working along with the Armenian American Medical Society of Los Angeles and the Armenian Neurologists Association of Yerevan, the Boston AAMA is leading the effort to buy and provide much needed medications to the children from Artsakh and the war injured.
During the past 3 weeks, a group of pharmacists and physicians from these organizations have been able to send some donated medications to Yerevan. Our intention is to buy medications in Armenia and provide them to the patients for a period of 3 months with the possibility of extending this partnership.
If you would like to support this neurology and pain medications project, please use this PayPal link dedicated to the NeuroMeds project to donate online or send check payments written to “Armenian American Medical Association” and mail to PO Box 812641 Wellesley, MA 02482.
Please note “For Neuro Meds” on the check and make your donations by January 31, 2021!
Thank you to all participants and to those who donated during our blood driver fundraiser on December 20th aboard the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Blood Mobile!
